COMPUTER SOFTWARE

Computer software computer system consists of electronic device capable of computing manipulating information and software that carries out predefined instruction to complete a given tax the combination of physical equipment logical instructions gives power and WhatsApp delete it to the modern computing system.

 software is a collection of computer programs and related data that provide the instruction for telling a computer what to do and how to do it .

Types Of Software 

software can be divided into two major categories 

system software
Application software

System software

System software consists of several programs which are directly responsible for controlling integrating and managing the individual hardware components of a computer system.
 it is also provide the interface between the user and component of the computer.

Operating system

 it is consists of programs which controls coordinates supervise the activities of the various component of a computer system. Its function is to provide link between the computer hardware and the user.

 The operating system performs the following function

1. It recognises input from keyboard, send output to the display screen.

2 makes sure that programs running at the same time do not interfere with each other.

3. It is also responsible for security ensuring that unauthorised do not access the system. 

There are many types of OS. The most common are as under.

Microsoft Windows

It is a family of operating system for personal computers. Windows provide a graphical user interface, visual memory management, multiplexing and support for various peripheral devices.

BOSS (Bharat operating System Solution)

Boss GNU/ linux Developed by c-DAC( centre for development of Advanced computing) derived from debian for enhancing the use of free or open source software throughout the India.

Apple macintosh

Most recent version of OS are based on Unix because it has a good graphical interface so, it is both stable( does not cross often or have as many software problems as other systems may have) an easy to learn. One drawback of this system is that it can only be run on Apple produced products.

BIOS

The basic input or output system(BIOS) is commonly known as system of BIOS.
Function of bios is to initialise system device sockets the RAM, Hard disc, cD or DVD drive, display card and other  hardware .
The BIOS the message hardware into a non state that helps the operating system to configure the hardware components this process is known as "Booting up".

Booting

Booting is a port strapped process which starts the operating system when a computer is switched ON and operating system gets loaded from hard disk to main memory.

There are two types of booting

Cold booting

When a computer is turned on after it has been completely shut down.

warm Booting

When a computer is arrested by pressing the combination of Control + alt +Del key or by restart button.

Mobile operating system.

Mobile operating system can be classified as

1. Android

Android was introduced by Google in 2007.
Android is an OS based on Linux.
It is basically designed for top screen mobile device like tablets, smartphones etc. 
Latest version of Android is KitKat launched in January 2014.

2.Symbian

It is the OS developed and sold by Symbian Limited
Symbian is an open source mobile OS designed for smartphones
It has been used by many major handsets manufactures including Motorola, nokia, samsung, sony,etc

3. IOS

It is the popular mobile operating system developed by Apple Incorporation.
This operating system is commonly used in Apple iPhone, iPad touch , iPad and second generation Apple TV.

4 .blackBerry

This is the most secure operating system used in leading smartphones developed by BlackBerry company.
It is also support wap 1.2.
The latest version of BlackBerry operating system is Blackberry 10

5. Windows Phone 8 Apollo


Windows Phone 8 is the second generation of the Windows phone mobile operating system microsoft RM Microsoft developer network in August 2011 and previewed at microsoft's snake pic at Windows phone on June 20 2012.

Initially launched by four companies nokia, samsung, huawei hTC.

WhatsApp Messenger


WhatsApp Messenger is proprietary , cross platform instant messaging subscription services for smartphones.
Using this facility user can send text messaging images video and audio messages available for Android Blackberry Blackberry 10 iOS and Windows phone
Age of 22 April 2014, whatsApp had over 500 million monthly active users, 700 million photos and hundred million below videos are share each day the messaging system handles more than 10 billion message each day.

3. Device drivers

A software which is written with the objective of making a device functional when it is connected to the computer is called device driver

System utilities

These programs perform task related to maintenance of the computer system
These are the packages which are loaded into computer during time of installation of operating system .

Mainly consists of following functions,

1.Disc compression
2.Backup utilities 
3.Antivirus 
4.Disk fragmenters
5.disk cleaner

Language translator

Language translator helps programming language to machine language
There are three different kinds of language translator

1. Assembler

It is used to convert the Assembly language into machine language(0/1)

Compiler

It is used to convert the source code into machine language.

Interpreter

This language processor convert a high level language program into machine language by converting it line by line

Application software

Application software is a computer software designed to help the user to perform singular or multiple task.
Send for specific user or applications that enable the user to interact with a computer.
Application software also called the end user programs.
This program should do the real work for users.

There are two types of application software

1. General purpose software


General purpose software designed to perform general task.

Word processing software.

Presentation software
Election spreadsheets
Database management system
Specific purpose software

Purpose software are designed to perform specific tasks this type of application software generally has one purpose to is execute 

Some of specific purpose application software are described below
